Since Facebook Messenger has morphed into Instagram it now has a bunch of new features. Including more live video broadcasts, new ways to share stories, and a new Stories format. One of its prominent features is that you can react to Instagram messages as well.
But the majority of people are facing this issue where they are unable to react to their messages. In fact, most of them are new users. So whenever they open up their chat box they don’t see any emojis to reply to.
So this article is all about why aren’t you able to react to your messages. Let’s dive in and find out how you can fix this error.
Why Can’t I React To Messages on Instagram?
There is no doubt that millions of people use Instagram on a daily basis. Whether it’s sharing photos, videos, or chatting with friends. They don’t find such problems on the platform. They can react to any message by just using a random emoji. For some existing and new users, it is not possible to do so.
If you’re one of them and don’t see that option then you haven’t updated your messaging on Instagram. Or maybe these feature is not rolled out to you yet. Meanwhile, you can wait till Instagram rolls out this feature in your country.
How To Fix “Can’t React To Messages” Error?
If you’re on Instagram on the DMS and it’s not giving you the option to reply to a specific DM. Then there are a couple of different things that you need to do to get that functionality. It’s a fairly new feature on Instagram so I’ll walk you through the steps:
Update Instagram App
- First, get into the app or play store and just type in Instagram on the search bar. The reason is that it is a fairly new feature and we want to make sure that we have the latest Instagram.
- So if you type in Instagram it says update just tap on the update button.
- If it says open then you already have the latest version. You can just move forward from there.
Update Instagram Messaging App
- Once we have the latest version we’ll just go back into Instagram.
- The next thing that you want to do is tap on the profile icon at the bottom right.
- Then tap on the three lines at the top right this will bring up various options and menus.
- If it says update messaging at the bottom then tap update messaging. That will give you the latest functionality of messaging.
It doesn’t work to just update the latest software app for Instagram. You also have to tap the button to update messaging so that it links between Facebook and it updates all of your features. So once you hit the update messaging button then you’ll have the latest features.
Report a Problem
If it’s still not showing up and you’re still having trouble then I would suggest reporting this to Instagram.
- To do is go back to your profile page and hit the three lines at the top right corner.
- Then what we want to do is hit settings. Then right above ‘about’ you’ll see the option “help.”
- Now you can go through the process of reporting a problem. So go ahead and tap on “Report a Problem.”
You can fill in these details: “My reply option is not showing up I’ve updated it to the latest app version. I’ve also gone through and accepted the latest messaging features. But it’s still not working.”
- After that take a screenshot of the error and submit your help request. Hopefully, Instagram will get back to you in the next week or so and get it enabled.

How To React To Messages?
- First, open up Instagram app then just tap on messages at the top right corner.
- Then choose one of your chats and tap and hold on to one of the messages.
- You get all different kinds of options to react by using random emojis.
- If you wanted to reply you can long hold on to that and then hit reply. What it does is it replies to a specific message that this person has sent you.
